Transforming Legal Practice:
Lawyers Increasing Access to Justice

Lawyers are meeting the needs of clients in new ways and reaching more people, providing a better experience for them and in a cost-effective way.

Featuring Keynote Speaker, Rebecca Sandefur, of Arizona State University and Fellow at the American Bar Association, and a panel of British Columbia lawyers who will share how they transformed their practices, attendees will be inspired to meet the legal needs of British Columbians in ways that work for clients.

Rebecca L. Sandefur
Keynote Speaker
Rebecca investigates access to civil justice from all angles — from how legal services are delivered/consumed, to how civil legal aid is organized around the nation, to the role of pro bono, to the relative efficacy of lawyers, non-lawyers and digital tools as advisers/representatives, to how ordinary people think/resolve their justice problems. In addition to her appointment at ASU, she is Faculty Fellow at the American Bar Foundation, where she founded and leads the Access to Justice Research Initiative. Her public service includes appointment by the Supreme Court of Utah to the state's Office of Legal Services Innovation and her role as Co-Vice Chair of California's Closing the Justice Gap Working Group. Rebecca was The Hague Visiting Chair in the Rule of Law (2013), named Champion of Justice by the National Center for Access to Justice (2015), and named a MacArthur Fellow for her work on inequality and access to justice (2018). She is currently Editor of Law & Society Review.
