The New Lawyer 2.0: Stepping Up to the Challenge of Access to Justice
October 2, 2018 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Justice Education Society, 260-800 Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC
University of Windsor Professor Julie Macfarlane will deliver a talk based on her newly published book “The New Lawyer.” As dispute resolution before the courts continue to decline, she will describe the emerging profile of a new lawyer who wants to succeed as a conflict resolution advocate. She will also talk about how new clients, some of whom rely heavily on the internet, are transforming the practice of law. Finally, she will discuss how the self-represented litigant phenomenon continues to challenge lawyers to develop new and more affordable models of service delivery.
Immediately following her lecture, a panel led by Chief Justice of BC Bauman will talk about the unique access to justice programmes.
This event provides 2 hours of CPD, including 1 hour in client relations, ethics and professional responsibility.
Rates range from $75-105. The proceeds help fund the operations of Amici Curiae, which provides free legal form workshops for self-represented litigants, across the GVRD.
